Senior LIFEsteps
A comprehensive, easily administered assessment system that provides an objective, reliable, and consistent approach for senior living and service decisions
SENIOR LIFESTEPS BENEFITS SENIOR CARE ORGANIZATIONS OF ALL KINDS
The Senior LIFEsteps System is used by senior care organizations nationwide, including continuing care retirement communities, independent and assisted living and skilled nursing centers, and home care providers.
These organizations rely on Senior LIFEsteps assessments to help:
- Reassure seniors and families about the rightness of their decisions
- Engage seniors in the assessment process
- Improve risk management
- Promote efficient use of staff and resources
The Senior LIFEsteps screening and placement system applies scientific objectivity, reliability, and measurement to the process of assessing older adults for placement and services. Senior LIFEsteps was developed by experienced clinicians and researchers and was introduced in 1997. This unique, field-tested assessment approach provides a complete set of tools that together deliver a 360-degree evaluation of an individual’s functional and life management capabilities. Each Senior LIFEsteps tool evaluates a specific area of competence – ambulation, medication management, cognitive function, and more – and the tools are contained in a single evaluation booklet to simplify recordkeeping and facilitate communication and follow up. Exclusive to the Senior LIFEsteps System is the Wassenaar Continuum Scale. This straightforward research-based numeric scale translates physical and psychological capabilities into a score that interprets an individual’s capacity to live independently. The result is an objective and reliable evaluation of a senior’s well-being – and a solid foundation for a placement recommendation.
