The Senior LIFEsteps screening and placement system applies scientific objectivity, reliability, and measurement to the process of assessing older adults for placement and services. Senior LIFEsteps was developed by experienced clinicians and researchers and was introduced in 1997. This unique, field-tested assessment approach provides a complete set of tools that together deliver a 360-degree evaluation of an individual’s functional and life management capabilities. Each Senior LIFEsteps tool evaluates a specific area of competence – ambulation, medication management, cognitive function, and more – and the tools are contained in a single evaluation booklet to simplify recordkeeping and facilitate communication and follow up. Exclusive to the Senior LIFEsteps System is the Wassenaar Continuum Scale. This straightforward research-based numeric scale translates physical and psychological capabilities into a score that interprets an individual’s capacity to live independently.
